New Tank - Lots of problems - brown rocks, dead fish!

20-30ppm nitrates are the highest most fish will be able to stand except for some damsels.

Not without deterioating, note, i said except for some damsels and maybe wrasse, even then i douldn't try it over a long period of time, i would think they would loose the battle in the end.

I have found Nitrate up to 100ppm is fine for FOWL, as the one i have has 40-80ppm and its been going for 3 years so far, even has a starfish in it (chocolate chip one, as its not reef safe), its the raipid change in nitrates that does it, a slow, gradual increase wont bother much unless you have sensitive inverts like some anemones or serpent stars as well as sensitive fish.
