New Tank. Need Options

not to discourage, but bio-wheels and plants dont always mix,if you will be using cO2 i would take the biowheel off since it will greatly cancel the cO2's effect. But if you choose low need plants keep it. It does a great job of aerating and bio filtration. I own an Eclipse 1 hood and i am very happy with it
the bio wheel is a tad noisy at first but quiets down after it gets heavy with slime (no need to clean).

I also have a 20 gallon long tank, and currently there is a trofeus dubowsi, 2 clown loaches and 2 blue rams, i probably wouldn't recommend any of these fish as the rams and the trofeus are too teritorial, and the clown loaches get too big from what i've been told. but I would heartily reccomend the dwarf corys!!! I bought 4 of them, and they're in my ten gallon tank, and they are the greatest fish! They're entertaining, they look really cool, and they are very hardy! Congrats on the eclipse 3 hood, i saw i pic and it looks really cool!!!

Just a note, you will not likely find female gouramis of any kind outside of a store that does special orders.

If you do get more than one, they will have territorial bouts. Dithering fish are a good idea, they might cut down on the gourami on gourami violence.

And from what I've heard from other gourami owners is they can be just as aggressive to females as they are to males. So I dunno where the "gouramis like to be in pairs" came from, but that should come with a rather large caveat.
