New tank, new light, and now green water

Had the Green water problem in the winter time, after I cleaned the filters, tried everything, UV filter from Petsmart did the job 3 days. $50
The free solution in the summer would be to get willow tree branches and see if that will work for you. That is what was used in the old days!
good luck

UV filters are awesome!

are you using carbon in your filter ?

If you cant afford the uv, I understand ... I would add a second filter with 100% polyfil, this will help' pull out all the green yuck, do NOT add any ferts I dont think you have enough plants yet to worry about that and you should get rid of the green water 1st . I HATE GREEN WATER, AND I understand how frustrating this all is . HTH and GOOD luck , ALSO the 3 day black out works well too !!! ~~~~~ do BOTH , add polyfil, and throw a dark sheet on the tank for 3 days . I bet that helps. also dont worry about feeding fish during black out they will be fine . good luck !! let us know what works for you

I had a really bad case of green water. Tried a blackout, tried more plants, daily water changes. The only thing that finally did it was the UV from petsmart. The"green killing machine". 40 bucks and no green water after about 3 days. Hasn't been an issue since.

...suggested it could also be the liquid fertilizer I added to the 20L when I first set it up...

Exactly my first thought.
I done it to myself a few yrs ago.
Started up a 30g with some wysteria, flourite added some iron and ammonia. And turnt on the two 30w lights.
A couple of days later you couldn't see an inch into the tank.
But it was kinda cool watching the green water swirl around.
Ended up getting a different job and done nothing with it until a few months ago.
Fired it up with a few plants and the same flourite. But this time, DIY CO2, No ammonia, no ferts. Fired up the 96w cf and one 30w fl. Nice clear water with just a ph blowing through a diy reactor.
