New Tank Questions

Thanks Reefscape,

I know sensitive some inverts are to copper that's why I asked. Any ideas on how much and what kind lighting a 'fuge with some chaeto will need?

About 40 - 50w would be ample...Some people use a small T5 light, power compact bulb for this...various solutions / options available...

That's it, 40-50 watts? Ok. I was guessing that it would need more. Thanks. What "kind" of light does it need? Does it have to be a real 10K aquarium-rated bulb, or will a white shop light work?

I just hate spending money on a fancy aquarium light that is gonna be hidden in the cabinet with the sump. I'm only trying to grow (macro) algae in there after all anyway.

Please forgive me for being a cheapo. More money for fish and rock are much needed.

Thanks

Can i put in my 2cents lol
If i were you and you plan on inverts and corals ,i will strongy suggest a seperate tank for them to be QT with no sand and no rock and do your FW dips and watch them 6 to 8 weeks with a magnifying glass lol
Had i known all of this and dont it i wouldnt be loosing now .
Some may think how can an invert bring anything .
My anemone has braught spiders and lost almost all coral ,so anything is possible .
Im gonna look at it this way from now on ......I would protect myself against STD'S .....Time to protect my tank the same way!

Blossom,

Yes, I am planning on getting a 10 gal bare bottom QT tank sometime before I start adding fish.

So, your anemone brought spiders? Wow, that's really creepy. This maybe a stupid question, but are you supposed to FW dip anemones and corals to avoid spiders and such? I have no clue whether it would harm them or not.

I have used the standard light bulbs before, and then a small T5 lighting box...Both work, however, i noticed a lot more growth when i moved to the T5 light....
