Okay, so I've got my tank set up and I just filled it with the garden hose. Now my question is.....if I dont put fish in for say....36hrs, do I need to worry about chlorine? It's well water so there's no other chloramine or additional additives.

Should I just do a water change with prime anyway?

The fish are still at the store and I plan on cycling my 30g with 5 rasboras and "Cycle".

Does anyone have any comments / criticisms on anything in this thread?

All is appreciated, thanks.

Cycle is crap. The only product which actually works is Biospira. Even then, I don't trust such products and I do all of my tanks either by waiting through a fishless cycle or by adding established media.

I would add Prime just to be safe - and you don't need to do a water change for that. Just add it to the tank.

Cycle does nothing. You are better off using Bio Spira or getting some used filter media or gravel from an established tank. Please read the sticky on cycling at the top of this forum and please consider a fishless cycle.
Get a good liquid test kit. AP makes a good one.

Do you add chlorine to your well water? If not, you wouldn't need conditioner, although Prime has other benefits and certainly wont hurt.

:iagree: with the above statements and would suggest using Prime even without the concern of Chlorine or Chloramine, because of the effects on NO2 & NO3. Better safe than sorry...

i to have well water andno clorine but i ran out of conditioner for my goldies outside and added large amount of clean water and my goldie was floating at the top and when i touched it it didn't dive, so the heavey metals in ground water do affect them and prime and others neutralize them,...so rushed to lfs and got conditioner and all is well again,.

Wow, great info everyone, thanks.

I have prime so it's no problem to add it. However, I also have "cycle" and my local PETCO doesn't carry BioSpira. I've read a lot on cycling, including the sticky but thanks for the info.

So I'll consider the fishless cycle unless my lfs downtown carries BioSpira. Those stores have such bizarre hours!

Anyway, thanks again, as always yer such a great help here.

If you use Biospira, make sure t's refrigerated and take a cooler and cold pack with you. It worked well for me, but others have had mixed results mostly attributed to the bacteria dying off because of heat at some point during shipping or transport.

Well the lfs didn't have biospira.......but I'm doing a fishy cycle anyway....had to appease our 4 yr old. Got six rasboras in there and will be monitoring water parameters like a hawk, wish me luck.

Thanks again for the reply's.
