Hello i am getting my new tank soon it will be 55 gal i am so excited my tank now is a 20 gal - i have a few q's though - i currently have a few platies, a pleco, angel fish (which is getting huge) , some ottos and some albino cories as well as 3 different gouramies - i know currently i'm slighly overstocked - so i will be moving them into the 55 i want to get some silver dollars , pictus cats and clown loaches - i want to move into a more semi aggresive tank - i know my gouramies will be ok but will the sivlers beat up on my platies or will they be ok? also will pictus cats hurt my cories or will they be ok - i have 3 cories thinking of getting more , but i want two pictus cats - i want this 55 to be a pleasant tank with a slightly semi aggresive touch as i will be moving away from keeping platies etc - however i dont want to hurt the ones i have currently - thank for your help also pls give me some other suggestions if you have some!!! i'm also thinking of maybe gertting some schooling tetras!!! i obviously wont have all of these in there att he same time im jsut thinking out my options !!!

Are you keeping the 20 gallon going and the 55 at the same time. If so I would leave the platies and cories in that tank and move the more aggressive fish into the 55 gallon.

Also from what I have read I might stay away from the clown loaches in the 55 gallon. They tend to do best in groups of 3 or more and they get really heavy bodied and require a 75 gallon or more (I think) to be really happy. Perhaps some smaller bodied loach would be a better choice?

Agree also with the clown loaches and I would think the Silver dollars would be to big for this tank; since you would want a nice school of them. I would probably go with a smaller tetra or schooling fish for this tank. But yes, if you place everyone in the 55 and add the other fish, you will easly over stock pretty fast. I personally would keep the platies, ottos and cories in the 20 and move everyone else in the larger tank. Well that is my 2 cents worth. :)

To keep on your semi-aggressive theme, instead of silver dollars you could get... maybe a nice pack of tiger barbs... like 10. Though, I don't know how your gourami fair, but with 10 there might be so much infighting with the barbs that they wouldn't care about the gourami's feelers.

the 20 gallon

is not going to be running any longer i havent got enough room for both - as far as compatability oges though will the silver dollars be ok with the other fish? and will the pictus be ok wth my cories ??? thanks

yeah

i'm gonna stay away from tiger barbs i dont want semi-aggressive like that i can't stand those little nippers - i'm thinking semi aggressive as in like pictus cats ( if theyre considered semi aggressive) ive been told they are - but also if anyone can pls answer the above - whic is will silver dollars mix with my platies , gouramies angelfish and will pictus cats be ok with my cories
