New Tank

I personally like option 3. Dwarf Gouramis can be really pretty. And platies are super colourful and full of life. It would be a fairly active tank, IMO.

how many gourami should i have then?

10-15 rummynose
x dwarf gourami female and male
6 cory jullii
platies

could i not have platies and have the 2 x blue rams instead, would they be ok with the gourami?
And is there any room to have the ottos also or should i leave them out?

its so hard deciding on what to go for:shake: there are so many nise fish i want.
i would like shoaling fish for middle/surface and for bottom then larger fish to be the show piece that swim all over the tank like the angels.

thanks for everybodies help i'm going to spend day now looking at profiles to help me decided.:D

You might be able to have 2 dwarf gouramis. There aren't any females easily available so it is all males. As long as there are lots of hiding places you should be fine. My brother has 2 rams and 1 gourami in his tank and they haven't been a problem (same sized tank, heavily planted). The rams hang out a lot near the bottom I believe.

Thanks

Thanks alot TKOS you've been very helpfull.:D

i've decided now  i think!:argh

i'll go for
1 male gourami (+ females if can find)
2 rams
10-15 rummynose tetra
6 jullii
3 ottos - adding after few months to give time algae and to see if there are any problems.

i'll go and get my fish then starting with rummynose, i'll put the gourami in last?

Put the rams in last would be my guess. Since they will be a pair they might claim the whole tank if allowed.

Make sure to keep testing the water of course. Also since you already have another tank either use some media from it or else run the new filter for a week on the old tank to get it jump started. That will help to reduce the start of the cycle.

It's changed again

i have my water tested weekly by my local store. it's cheaper then buying test kits, because its free.

i've been checking up on the fish i decided on. the cory jullii pH range i've been told is to alkaline for the rams. so going for cory gomezi or panda or schwartzi who have lower ranges.
Also told that the rasbora will scare the rams cause swim fast and the rams are timid, i was advised to get either red tetra, black neons or silvertip tetra, but surely these are fast swimming fish also?

i can't wait to have the tank setup as choosing fish is driving me crazy:mad2

My silver tips are very zippy fish--I can't see them being an improvement. Not sure about the others....

For pH--as long as you acclimate the fish slowly, they should be fine in a different than ideal, but stable setup.

Yes, keeping stable water params is the best thing you can do. Acclimate them slowly over a 2 hour period taking a little water out of the bag and adding alittle tank water in every 15 minutes or so.

If the tank is well planted the rams will do fine with the rasboras. Pretty much all tetras are on the zippy side. Having places for the rams to retreat if they need to should be fine. It may mean you don't see them all the time though.
