ok i have a125 gallon tank....its been basically running for like 3 weeks.....kinda jumped the gun and havent gotten my heaters for it .....but its got 2 emp 400 runnin on it.......i put a 200watt heater i have extra in it to try to keep it at about 70 and put some seeded foam insterts in the extra trays on the 400's which were ran in my existing 55 for like 2 weeks......but now im noticing brown algae i guess discoloration on the rocks and getting the brown algae on the sides of the tank....lol and plus i saw a lil plant sprout of the the gravel i was like what the ****....so is this bad....what is it doing.....oh and i think a lil bit of the algae bloom from the 55 got in the 125...

what do u all think?

I am just a stupid noob, But sounds like tank maybe cycled? anyone....

**** i just posted this last night and its already 3 pages back and only 1 reply anyone else? :sad

Well, since it's been empty for three weeks, I doubt it has been cycled since there has been no ammonia in there to start cycling. First thing to do if you want to add fish is to start cycling. There is a sticky somewhere that deals with fishless cycling (which is the most humane way to go). I would suggest you take a look at them. Sorry I don't have the links.

You had the right idea with the seeded filter; however, if you haven't had any fish in it for 3 weeks, any bacteria you did have is probably dead. The bacteria need an amonia source to survive. Do it over - if your 55 is still running, put some media from it into the 125 and add a few fish to keep the cycle....also, don't forget to get the temp. up before adding fish.

ehh...it hasent been in their 3weeks just about a week or so....the tanks been runnin for 3weeks i put the filters in afterlike 2 weeks.....yah and im kinda stuck without the heaters......the 200 watt dosent keep it warm enough....the temp is like 67 or so

Well i was gonna go with 2 300s but im gonna have larger fish and the only 300 watts i can find are glass.....they have 250's in the plastic ones....so i guess i have to deal with 500 wats

Have you considered using BIO-Spira to cycle the tank? It sounds as if you are in a hurry. It will provide the bacteria you need (if it works properly, some pouches have issues) and you can easily chech it against pure ammonia in the fishless cycle style to ensure it is cycled. Once it is cycled in this manner, you can add a full load of fish. It's reasonable, safe and keeps you from having to do 50% water changes everyday on a 120 gallon tank because you are stuck with a fishy cycle.

lol i dunno i used bio-spria in my moms tank and it didnt work out to well...the **** goldfish **** near died and it took the fish like a month to get totally better.... and bio-spira for a 125 gallon tank **** that would cost me a **** load .......the tank has been running for like 3 weeks....and as soon as i get the heaters i have a year long established 55 running so im gonna put that water in the 125 and run the filter pads in my emps...and put the gravel in the tank since its the same color so it should get pretty much instantly cycled...
