It's a good plan, I would still check it against pure ammonia at 5 ppm and make sure the bacteria can handle it. If it's cycled instantly, you've lost nothing but a few mL of ammonia and one day. If the tank isn't instantly cycled, you stand to lose more time in water changes, water testing and possibly livestock.
 
whohoo finally got my heaters.....hopefully 2 250's are enough cause they didnt have any 300's in the unbreakable heaters...and im gonna have some large fish so i dont want them breaking the heaters.......
 
the reason i guessed maybe cycled was because my water has high ammonia levels right out of the tap in it... the cholrine ammonia bonded stuff thats bad for fish, anyway I have no idea what I am doing and I just did the Biospira route, its working great so far, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS MAKING SURE YOU GET IT FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE! read the huge post on "using biospira" in the Products and DYI section of the forum, lots of great info on it, IT WILL WORK if you get a good batch from a good source.
 
heaters working great...i love it 2 250's heated the water up to 80 in like half a day.....their the black plastic stealth250 heaters.....nice they have a aluminum cylinder with the like 8 heating elements all the way around...and has a auto shut off to avoid over heating
