OK GUYS, I HAVE GOT BITTEN BY THE FISH BUG.I BOUGHT A 10 GAL STARTER SET UP A FEW WEEKS AGO AND NOW WANTING A 55 GAL.I'M NOT SHIRE IF I SCOLD HOUSE OSCARS IN IT OR HAVE A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT CICLIDS IN IT.HOW MANY OSCARS COULD I PUT IN A 55?OR WHAT OTHER FISH WOULD BEE A GOOD MATCH FOR A OSCAR? :help:

one Oscar can live fine in a 55 with good filtration and a strict testing and water change routine, if your nitrates get over 20 ppm than you need to decrease feeding or increase water change frequency.

try oscarfish.com for more info on Oscars

Water quality isn't the issue here. The footprint of a 55g (48" x 12") doesn't provide a fully grown Oscar enough room to comfortably move around and turn. Believe me, I know, because I initally considered a single "water dog" Oscar for my 55 when I first got it, then shifted over to much smaller Malawi cichlids--more color anyway. That's my two taters' worth.
