Yesterday, I was in my uncle's basement and I found this huge plastic container which I thought would make a really cool something (aquarium/terrarium). I got it home, scraped off the labels, and measured it- at 8" x 8" x 10" it would hold about 2.9 gallons of water. I decided that because of the lid and smaller opening, it would make a better terrarium than aquarium. Well, I've never had a terrarium before, so I don't really know what I'm doing, although I have had many outdoor gardens. I'm planning on having it get natural sunlight instead of artificial lighting. What would be some good plant suggestions? Because its basically sealed shut (screw-on lid) it will be pretty humid. Are there any critters that I could put in there as well? Would I have to replace the lid to keep anything other than plants? Thanks in advance for your help!

oh okay. well i'll see if i can figure something out for a replacement or i could just poke some holes in the lid. (would that work?)

i forgot to add (for both flora and fauna suggestions); this container is higher than it is wide. so not as much floor space as height, just to take into consideration..

you're not planing on putting it in direct sunlight are you?
because that would be a bad idea.

It sounds like it would make a good insectivorous plant terrarium to me.

Where should I place it so that I don't need to use artificial lighting? :/ I think some carnivorous plants would be a really cool idea.

bright indirect natural light should be fine, but direct sun will cook it.
okay, thanks (:

any suggestions for plants? Maybe a pitcher plant or venus flytrap... what other insectivorous plants are there?
