New terrarium

Have picked up a 20Hex and IMO it is worthless as a fish tank but would make a great small terrarium, .

I would like to know if someone could make a sticky or a list of appropriate plants for one. This will be a "Plant Only" with a 12" light (I think).

TIA!!!

I am sorry to say that I don't have enough experience to really start cranking out plant possibilities, but if you have already look at some: Neoregalia bromeliads, pitcher plants(I apologize for the lack of scientific names, I still have a VERY green thumb/knowledge in this area), obviously mosses such as tropical pillow and java, dragon's scale fern, lemon button fern, Korean rock fern, and creeping fig. That should be enough to get you started, anyway.

Java moss will grow emersed as long as its humid enough. Venus fly traps!

Thanks CAl for addressing the question at hand. Scientific names aren't needed as most ppl around here would be lost with them.

My wife loves plants and is terrified by any critters. This is for her as she has a brown thumb and I will maintain it for her. Any sort of critter and she will be terrified of it getting out even if it hasn't the physical ability to do so. She will not enjoy it at all if it has a critter in it, hence PLANT ONLY!

I would imagine so. I had it grow up some driftwood out of the water on my old turtle tank.

Check out www.blackjungle.com for lots of cool terrarium plants and info. Most small bromeliads (including air plants), lots of ferns like Pellaea and Pteris sp., various orchids, peperomias, pothos, philodendrons, sellaginellas, mosses, liverworts, and many other tropicals do well in terraria. I would avoid carnivorous plants as they are a bit delicate.
