New to Africans, stocking questions

Some are very hard to sex. Each is different. Mbunas are less agressive if kept slightly crowded, but make sure you over filter!!

ok, so maybe an all male peacock tank then...if i go that route then what's the best way to sex the peacocks?

although i'm really tempted to just get about 10 of the assorted variety, since they are so colorful...

Well, the finnage (larger, more pointed) is not a bad place to start.

But best to buy at a size when they have coloured up.

You can get nice fish from the assorted tanks if you know what to look for. Its important to tell the difference between mbuna and peacocks though). And you are never really sure what you are getting and what it will turn out like, unlike with a species tank.
