Probably if it gets to the bottom, but sinking algae wafers and vegetables make a much better food for them.

I agree with Riiz. Sinking pellets will ensure that they are getting enough to eat.

You may want to put a sponge over the power filter's intake to prevent injuries to the betta's fins - or worse, since many bettas are kept in those abysmal cups for a long time before being sold they can be too weak to swim away from the inlet and end up stuck on it. I have seen this a few times and it's heart breaking. If not caught in time, the betta will die.

that happened to me a couple times, a first i didnt notice what was going one, but im glad i caught it in time

IME, when I put a betta into a tank with a platy, oto, ADfrog, and a kuhlii loach, the betta ripped the platy's tail in half, but ignored everyone else. I assumed after that that anything with bright colors is a likely target, and anything that swims in his level of the tank is bound to get noticed. Just keep that in mind and you should be fine.

so i need a temporary home for a 2.5 inch rainbow shark. he currently is in my community tank but i need to get him out of there.

i am going to get another tank and stock it around him, but that is probably a month away.

can i put the rainbow shark in with betta?
