I am a new aquarium owner. I had a tropical tank years ago, and now I am anxious to get my tank going with chiclds

I have a 75 gal bow front tank that I had aquascaped with rocks and substrate and could never get my Eheim filter to work and after 2 complete changes in water and aquascape I gave up.

My 8 year old convinced me to start the tank again. If I have to buy a new filter so be it, but I want to get set up again.

I am really starting from scratch but decided I want to have africans and would appreciate any help or advice someone can give me in general

substrate
is air filter necessary?
heater?
best filter if my eheim doesnt work

thanks very much....

Welcome to AC!

I would start a thread in the General Freshwater or the Cichlid Forums for many responses to your questions. Please the stickies in there have plenty of basic info.

Hi. Glad to hear you and your 8 year old are getting into the hobby again. Filters are pretty inexpensive compared to the cost of tanks and other equipment, so you are in a better position than most people who start the hobby. If you are looking for basic information on tank setup and maintenance I would check out the freshwater forum, and Articles. If you are looking for information specific to the Africans you want to keep, post your questions in the cichlid forum. I hope to see the progress of your new hobby around the forum. Enjoy the site, and getting to know it's members.
