New to cichlids, new tank stocking

I think it's 30" long, blue - that's what he put down in the stocking calculator :)

I personally really dislike AqAdvisor, but that's just me.

I always thought 3' was the minimum too, but I've read posts by mods on cichlid-forum.com saying that 29 gallons was ok for P. saulosis as long as there was adequate filtration (Emperor 400 is plenty) and lots of hiding places.

Just got back from the LFS.
I told him my tank size and a general idea of what I was looking for and he immediately brought me to the Kribs and African Butterfly cichlids. He said a combo there might work. He also showed my the Jewel Cichlids and said they'd be good in a community.
So the LFS and the forum are right on the same page.
They're all really cool fish. I'm going to do some more reading, and will let you all know what I do or if I have more questions.

Thanks!

I don't have direct experience with Jewel cichlids, but my impression is they can be very mean(especially when spawning). There are a couple of recent threads with people having issues with aggressive jewel cichlids.

I would go with one of the other two species(kribs or African Butterfly cichlid).

Hmm... It seems like Kribs can get really feisty when breeding, while African Butterfly cichlids are much more peaceful. Perhaps the African Butterfly Cichlid would work with 2 Bolivian Rams?

2 African Butterfly Cichlids
2 Bolivian Rams
2 Pearl Gourami
5 ornate tetra

Would the Pearl Gourami work here? Was it the Kribs that might not work with them?
Though it does seem a bit odd to have 3 different continents represented!
Thoughts?
