new to cichlids (variety)

whats a dither?

ok so here is what ive decided between two choices
2 sev (7"max ea)
2 firemouths (6" ea)
2 keyhole (acara) (5"ea)
2 paraguay mouthbrooder (acara) (4-5"ea)
1 bichir
1 pleco
~~~~~~~OR~~~~~~
2 sevs
5-6 rams
5-6 apistos
1 pleco
1 bichir

the tank will have a 75g wet/dry filter and a 75g canister. water changes will be done every two days 25% all fish bought as juvies.... opinions
 
hey toodleypops..I think you need to read and take note of the comments other people have made and definitely reconsider those stocking lists. Personally in a 55 gal I would do either a pair of firemouths or blue acaras with some dithers, dithers are usually a school of fast moving fish like danios, barbs or tetras...

Both options you presented are way overstocked, especially with cichlid aggression it's a recipe for disaster. But every previous post did say that a max of 1 severum in a 55 with that being the only cichlid....I would listen to everyone's advice, but obviously you can do whatever you want with your tank.
 
well its ok i'm getting a one hundred gallon....
 
Even a 100g is to small for the fish you have listed, also i wouldn't mix pairs of cichlids. If you want a pair of sevs and they breed thats all you will be able to have in the tank, cichlids become a lot more aggressive at breeding time. If you want a community of SA/CA cichlids is best to only have one of each fish.

okay buddy

2 sevs is almost too much for a 55 gal
just stick with a sev and a bichir that will do fine
until they both get big and then you have to get 100 gal or something

But I still think your list is too much for even that...
