hey guys whats up i want to get a ten gallon tank and make it sw. what do you recommend in terms of equipment...the tank im getting had a bio-fiber filter in... and a heater and light and all that crap...i know for sure im getting..live sand and rock and plants....do i need an underground filter..with some power heads.....what do i need to do....thanks!!

an underground filter would be a waste with sand, it's just impossible to work. There's a lot you need to look into prior to just throwing a tank together. You'll need powerheads, a skimmer, a heater, adequate lighting depending on the stock, live rock, live sand, hydrometer, thermometer. I'm not sure about the plants...but the list can go on and on.

also a 10G tank for SW is considered a NANO tank and they are very, very hard to care for. the bigger the better in SW just incase something happens to your water quality, it would destroy a 10, while in a 55, might not even be noticable.

Here is the site I visited 4 years ago when I started my 25g reef tank - http://www.nano-reef.com/ - some really good info. I used the set up plan and it worked very well. I don't use a filter or a skimmer myself, and I do not believe my tank has suffered for it. As with any other tank set up, when you take the time to do the research and understand the parameters. you have a lot less problems down the road. Good luck and enjoy!
