New to marine,

well the reason i chose to cycle with the green chromis is because they are supposedly the most peaceful damsels and i want to have them in there even after the cycle is complete. I used to have a domino damsel and it terrorized everything in my 10 gallon so i returned it to the fish store. I know there are other ways to cycle the tank like coctail shrimp and bottled ammonia but the Damsels can take it. besides my partially cured live rock was in for a few weeks first which cycled the tank a bit before adding the chromis.

Senos, Your reply was extreemly helpful, I was too a LFS that does nothing but Marine fish and learned alot, I still have some research to do and maybe they will give me a job there so i can learn some more, Thanks for the help and the long post is what i needed to hear

Theres just so much to learn!... and the best part is that its FUN to learn... take care, and check out my thread of my 90 gallon marine setup (with lots of pictures) ... here is the link...

Thanks!

I set up my (10 gal) tank with nothing but live rock for 3 weeks and let everything run (heater filters etc.) I then bought a blue damsel and added him to the tank. He was great he has been great for the last year. I have had a few additions to the tank since then. About 4 weeks ago i got a cinn. clown, Condy anemone and 2 turbo snails. The damsel will dart at the clown but he dont hurt him and the clown will dart back at the damsel. But they swim around together all the time. I think they have PMS or something sometimes. LOL

Thats pretty cool! It must take alot of patience to keep everything regulated in a 10 gallon tank with all that stuff in it. 10 gallons is the size of my quarantine/hospital tank. right now I have a blue/yellow tail damsel in there as well as some live rock and sand to keep the ecosystem running. Actually that brings me to a question I have always wanted to know... If I was to take the live rock, live sand, and damsel out of the 10 gallon tank, and keep nothing in there, would it have to "re-cycle" before re-adding fish again one or two months later? Wouldnt all the beneficial bacteria die off since there is no waste production in there? I am quite interested to know this.... Thanks

yeah fish of all types do that

Northstar- we have a forum directly below this one entitle Marine Newbie Forum. All your questions should be answered there. There are many people here that have set up their tanks thanks in part to that forum. That would be the best way to go about setting up along with the books. You can NEVER know too much :)! Anyway hope this helps and good luck!
