i am interested in getting either an oscar or a green terror. i was just wondering if a twenty gallon long tank would be good for it. i dont really care which one i get so could you tell me which one is easiest to take care of. Also, i was wondering if there were any good tank mates (for the 20 gallon long tank) that would work well with either fish. And frankly, i wouldnt know what to feed him. would feeder gold fish or guppies work or should i get some flakes or whatever for them.

Thanks

To be honest I think others will agree aswell.

Oscars get huge (12in +) so the tank is really too small, unless you where happy to upgrade to a bigger tank as the fish grows (I think I have heard about 75g + is the minimum)

Green terrors, not sure how big they get, but I know they are very territorial and would probally not do too well in a 20g

I think a nice community tank would probally be your best bet :)

Allthough dont take my word for it, I'm still a newb aswell :)

Green terrors grow to be about 8 inches, and are not terribly active but need thier room to be happy. They also can't be kept with other fish that are any smaller than them because of their aggresiveness. either one of these fish will be unsuitable for a 20gallon, and absolutely not together!!

I had my oscar in a 10 gallon tank for quite some time, in fact, only when I got a bigger tank did he grow more. I was told once that fish grow to their environment, and I have to think this is true mainly because when Milo (my oscar) was in his 10 gallon tank, he didn't grow very fast, but once I put him in the 30 Gallon tank, he grew rather quickly and now he is once again staying at the same size. I am geting ready to move him to a 55 Gallon soon, so then he should grow more.

Just a though.

This is called stunting I believe.
If I remember what happens is... allthough the fish "externally" appears to stop growing, "internally" they carry on growing. So in other words allthough they bones stop growing there organs etc dont.

Would hate to see pics of the ultimate effects of this I must admit (sounds grusome)
