im currently setting up my first marine tank...

i have a couple of questions...
firstly...

should you keep any medications on hand incase of a common problem?
if so what medications?

secondly...
i will probably add around 80lbs of live rock to my 75gal...
plus another 30lbs(undecided of how much ill need??) of rubble into the refugium..
is it okay to add say 3 lots of 40lbs in seperate times of cured live rock...
for example...
because cured live rock can be pretty pricey...
i want to get my tank up and running but only have enough to get about 40-50lbs of live rock...
is it okay to keep adding live rock until i have my desired amount...
this is of course without adding any livestock...

all feedback very helpful.
cheers guys

In two and a half years of running a saltwater tank I have never used any medicine. I would only keep medicine on hand if I were housing something like seahorses. If you go slow in the build - Salt is much more stable than freshwater in my opinion - my freshwater tank always had some medical condition to deal with.

Yes you can always add live rock in stages. Once you have livestock add small amounts and you will be fine. In fact, I would not add it all at once because it is amazing how you can always find one more perfect rock at a store you haven't yet visited.

I agree with jay about everything he said. Do you think you could give us a stock list?

thanks guys.. simple questions but you need experienced advice.

not at this point sorry..

i have no idea what i want just yet..
besides the ever so popular pair of clownfish and blue tang
but yeah im going to work around the clownfish...
probably more LPS and softies for corals too.

cheers

Another quickie...

Would it be okay.. Say after 4-6 weeks of live rock
and water being added to add two green chromis?

I wanna just be safe before added the fish I really want and the corals..
So by adding two of these.. There cheap and it would be making sure my tank is
fully cycled..
I'm at the stage of saving for live rock and water..
So just wanting to get a heads up?

Cheers

If it is "cured" and your stable it would be fine, just keep up on the perameters.

If you want to keep the chromis then u will need at least three. Thats what i did. You can put the chromis in when the tank stabilizes. It took mine about a week.
