Newbe cycling needs help

Give it a couple hours after a water change before testing,Should be cycled by now if you added media. The difference between .25 and zero is easy to see.

If you are still getting ammonia readings between 0 and 0.25, you are not cycled. Your cycle will be a difficult one with that much fish loading and your filter may never be able to keep up depending on how big the fish are in that tank. At first glance it seems you are overstocked but it is hard to say without knowing what fish you have. By doing enough water changes to keep the ammonia down, you are also controlling the nitrites and nitrate so that is not too surprising. How high does your ammonia reading get right before you do your water changes? If it never gets above 0.10 ppm, you might try extending the water change pattern to every other day and see what your samples tell you. It may be that your filter is finally processing enough ammonia and you need to feel your way to how many changes you need to deal with nitrites now.

On the API Nitrate kit, you should read it at the 5 mniute mark.

How big are the water changes?

How many and what kind of fish?

5 Small tiger barbs, 4 cherry barbs, 3 red fin barbs, 3 molly's, 2 platies a catfish and a pleco.
My W/C done every few days now between 7/10 gal out of the 29 gal tank. I don't allow the amonina level go to high so i don't lose anymore fish.

I don't think you are overstocked, unless you have a common pleco. How much and how often are you feeding them. After this much time, and the transfered bacteria,I wouldn't think you would be getting any ammonia readings at all,and I find it odd that you do not have any nitrate readings.
What kind of catfish, and what kind of pleco are they? How big are they?
