Newbie 10g + new (male?) betta

Thanks for everyone's help so far. Here's the results of what I've learned so far.

Some Wisteria, Java Ferns, a banana plant, and plastic plants.

The lone resident so far.

Hummm. I was told it's a short-finned male. He / She / It is a little over 2" long and bigger than any other male I've ever seen.

Fin length doesn't make a difference in the gender unless you 100% know which variation you have. Plakats males have smaller, rounder fins similar to females of the long0finned varieties.

Females have an ovipostor, which is a tiny white dot located on the body between the ventral/pelvic fins.
