I received a BiOrb as a gift over the holidays and am just starting to set it up now. Just thought I would introduce myself. I'm going to browse the forums but basically wanted to start researching before I set up my tropical fish tank.

I'll first need to buy a heater, but am thinking of setting up a natural aquascape, with plants that are hardy, and easy to maintain. The same philosophy will apply for the fish as well.

Excited to get started! Any suggestions or recommendations welcome.

Thanks!

Hello, and welcome.

Good for you for researching first. :) Sounds like a cool tank- I don't know what the biorbs have for lighting, but I'm sure you could do at least low light plants. A nice planted tanks with some cool microfish, like norman's lapeye or something, and some red cherry shrimp and snails or something would look awesome in a biorb, IMO!

Crypts make for great low-landscape pieces front and center, and if you're looking for a fun small species, Neon Tetras are great; also, check the "Bottom Dwellers Forum" and poke around for Corys.

thanks for everyone's comments! The tank is doing ok. we got a few live plants, and a female guppy that just gave birth to 8 little ones.

I'm going to replace the ceramic media in the biorb with larger stones which will make the plants easier to submerge, and consider a snail for some algae control.
