Hello everyone! :dance2: I'm new to the aquarium world. I got a tank from my friend who was moving. He gave me everything including his fish. As of right now I have:
- 55 gallon tank
- 2 ODYSSEA 65w actinic blue lights
- 2 65w daylight 12000K
- protein skimmer (I don't know what kind but its huge)
- 55lb live rock
- live sand
- 2 pecular clownfish
- 1 yellow tang
- 1 6 line wrasse
- 3 green chromis
- 1 condy anemone
- bristle worms
- 3 crabs

I could use any information that anyone has to offer. Right now I'm worried about my anemone. The tips of him are turning brown and I don't know why. Any suggestions????

The anemone is turning brown becuase you don't have enough lighting. They need metal halides in a tank that size wich can run you $400 or more.

This should be your maintenence schedual, just to simplyfy every thing for you:

• once a week, clean skimmer cup
• feed 2x daily, with frozen and freeze dried foods only
• turn lights on/off at a chedualed time daily, light should be on for 13H a day at the most, at least 8h.
• monthly water changes of 25%
• top off with treated freshwater(tap water with prime or RO/DI) whenever the salinity increases to about 1.0025-1.0026. You need to top off regulary otherwise the salinity will increase to much and your fish will eventually die
• Monitor nitrate and Ph, and monitor amonia and nitrite whenever something that could damage the bacteria happens(such as moving the tank).

There are also other things you will have to do if you plan on keeping you anemone alive. Read the reefkeepers FAQ here at AC and use the links to find out. It's too complicated a subject for me to cover at the moment.

Be sure to feed your yellow tang any vegitable matter(prepared stuff from the fish store and any veggies that you yourself would eat) he will eat atleast once a wekk, other wise he could suffer lateral line or hole in the head disease.

Lettuce and "sallys seaweed sallad" have all been accepted by my yellow tang, as well as algae that I have to scrape off the glass for him(lazy fish).

Please, before you add ANYTHING to your tank, do extensive research on it, going by your local fish stores word is just asking for trouble. Mistakes made in a saltwater tank are very hard to corect, so do research and you won't make any.

just wanted to correct the mistake to prevent disaster. Salinity should be at 1.025-1.026. One "0", not two.
and the anenome will need more lighting.
