Hello everyone! This site is great. I've recently aquired a (used) Clarity Plus 65 gal flat back hex acrylic tank. It measures 16" x 48" long & 20" deep with the frontal area being 30" long. It was previously set up for salt water. I've cleaned everything thorughly & buffed all scratches out of the tank; what a job! I'm currently setting up for freshwater tropical fish. The equiptment I plan to use is as follows:
Perfect Flow RFUGF using Penguin 660R powerheads w/ pre-filters
*using natural colored pea gravel
Emporer 400 Bio Wheel Filter
Ebo Jager 250 watt heaters (2)
Rena 300 with ceramic airstone (at my daughters' request; "bubbles look cool"!)
It also came with a light that has 3 36" Aquarium Flourescent tubes
The tank will basically be housing community fish. I also plan on using Bio-Spira. Lots of good info here on that & cycling as well!
I also have a Red Sea Wet/Dry filter (Refugium?) that came with the tank. It has the siphon box for on the back of the tank, 2 pumps, and a Jebo Protien Skimmer. It has no hoses or connectors with it.
I have no idea how to hook this filter up. I'd really like to use it. My LFS told me that a wet/dry (refugium?) is for saltwater use only. Is this accurate? How do you hook these up to prevent the dreaded "flood on the carpet"? Do you use check valves? Would I be "over-filtered"? Sorry for the mini novel! Thanks in advance for your replies! -Jim
