Newbie needs advice

Whoops, I just read that the jewels come from a different part of Africa to the brichardis, and so shouldn't be put together (due to water requirements I think..). This changes things a bit, so I'll wait for a few more replies before saying anything else :p
 
OK, brichardi it is then (or convicts, I'll have to decide). How many could I start off with in my tank? Is there anything else I could put with it apart from julies? Even though the brichardis are very pretty, it would be good to have some variety in the aquarium... :)
