There he is, unfortunately he keeps flaring and swimming around the tank rapidly. I dunno if he's seeing a reflection of himself or if he's not used to the tank yet or what. I'm really concerned and if he keeps acting this way he'll probably eventually die of stress i think. Anything i can do? Also is 27 degrees to warm i keep having condensation buildup at the top of the tank?

Bettas are funny little creatures with lots of personality. They do get pretty uptight when they're in a new tank sometimes, I wouldn't worry about it too much. My first betta years ago was a gift and came in one of those little vases. I got him a 10gal tank and thought he'd kill himself swimming around flaring at everything and fighting with the water coming from the filter. Eventually, after about a week or so, he settled down though. He just has to get used to everything and realize that there is nothing threatening about his new surroundings.

Redtail sharks would be too large for your tank for sure. You'll have to find a fish that grows no larger than 2" or so at adult size and will also be compatible with the betta.

As far as tests, in my opinion it's best to eventually have a test kit that tests for pH, ammonia, nitrites and nitrates at least. GH and KH tests are also nice to have. Ammonia and nitrites are the necessities to start out with though since they are both toxic and need to be monitored closely, you have that covered now so I wouldn't worry too much about it right away. You should be able to take a sample of your water to the LFS occassionally to get a full range of tests done and not have to purchase a test kit right away.

Post in the Plants section with what type of lighting you have and the wattage and you'll get some great advice on what type of live plants you can have in there.

is there anything other then cory cats i can put in there? Theres some neat looking gold barb, green tiger barb, black ruby barb, albino barb, scissor tail rasbora, hi-fin platey, cardinal neon tetras, bumblebee catfish, asst balloon molly, silver lyretail molly that i liked. Also what about angel fish? Or something that'll pick away at the gravel?
