I just bought a moss ball from a chain store. It's attached to a little bag of gravel as a weight. Do I leave this attached, or cut it loose and let the ball float?

I have some hornwort. It came with what looks like a couple of stems tied together with a little piece of flexible metal. The same with some Ludwigia Palustris I just got. My substrate is gravel. Do I separate these bundles? Plant them or leave them floating?

My hornwort doesn't seem to be very healthy, dropping a lot of brown (needles). I have liquid fertilizer, but the bottle only says how much to give, not how often. Any advice here.

Thanks in advance!

I boughta moss ball from a chain store and have since found out that it isn't a real moss ball. Those sink. Apparently the stores glue (or silicone) moss around a styrofoam ball and sell it as a moss ball. I was pretty disappointed. I am going to order one from liveaquaria.com I have heard good things about them.

i never use plant weights they mess up the roots. i would take them off. hornwort does best floating. plant each stem plant so it doesnt shade each other. hornwort can and does melt when being moved. heck i redid one tank and had mine 90-95% die off before making a come back. what kind of ferts do you have?

well your right jackiomy some are java moss balls and some are real moss balls. first figure out what you have.
