Newbie: Simple questions before fish go in.

Well everyone. I have some specific questions and PMd those I thought to be most helpful. My girlfriend (Whom I bought the tank for) is also on here ...Nicole12...So she might chime in here soon with some questions. I would eventually like to personally maintain a 120gl + Salt Water Tank someday. I understand you have to start at simple in order to make your way to complicated, so any help at these most important stages is much appreciated!! I'm a sponge!

Here is a helpful little tip: don't rinse the filter media under tap water. Let it soak in tank water for about 20 minutes every month. Carbon has its uses in aquaria, but is not essential, and cartridges generally don't contain enough of it to be effective-replace it with additional biological filtration. Don't throw away the sponge until it's falling apart.
