newbie to corals

Okay, but specifically what kind of light. Despite what you may have heard, WPG is mostly irrelevant when it comes to actual lighting intensity. Can you search around the net for some pictures of the corals in question? A quick google image search should yield some answers.

oh cfl bulbs. heres a pic of wat may be the plate coral. im not sure though the guy said it was attached to the LR so i guessed this stuff

Well, what is in the pic is Turbinaria, otherwise known as scroll coral. Do a search on Montipora capricornis (this may not be your species, but it will look similar) and Turbinaria reniformis (again, may not be this exact species, but it will look similar to some other Turbinaria) and see if you can't differentiate them for us. The two corals have relatively dissimilar requirements.

im fairly sure the 1st is right but the second im 100% no. i emailed the guy for some pics ill post them if he sends any. the 1st looks like it though. not sure cause i havent seen it but since he said it was attached to LR i guessed so

As Amp and you zero in on what kind of corals you may get... we still need to know if that 10 gallon can support it.

Key thing here is what kind of PC lamp is it? Do you happen to have a link of the specific one you have. More than likely if its the hood im thinking of the lighting should be enough for a Monti. The limitations of a 10g makes it a pain to get a light on it without retrofiting something.

I imagine with proper lighting you could pull off having that monti in there. The only thing is I would recommend changing 50% of the water weekly and for sure use RO water for top off. It wont take much to have problems with parameters in a 10g.

Still you don't have much room to work with in a 10g... 1g a day change out would probably ensure the best conditions possible on that 10g. Vs weekly change.

you may want to make sure you test religiously before and after water changes since its so easy to mess up balances in something so small.. that is probably the best advise I can give.

I wish you luck.
