Newbie to plants

Here's what it looks like should you decide to go that route. I have the hood off center to compensate for the position of the light inside.

Hi Jordank, if you are at all handy you could retrofit your existing hood with a 36w compact fluorescent (CP) kit from AH Supply. They provide you with detailed instructions on how to install one of their fixtures. If you want something ready to go you are probably going to spend twice what a retro kit would cost. Unfortunately CP hoods for a 10g are not easy to come by.

Karnaaj, do the 36 watt hood from the site you gave fit on a standard 10 gallon aquarium?

so in the long run, would the 1X36 from ahsupply work better than the 2X13?

a 10 is a small tank and i heard that if you have a lot of light, youll have to add lots of nutrients, which would in turn make the plants outgrow the tank VERY quickly...

is this true? what would work best? sorry to jump into the middle of the conversation, but ive been wondering about this myself!

I've never heard a bad thing ever about AHSupply so the 36 watt would be a good investment, and fairly cheap too. Also bear in mind that the 55 watt I've got on my 10g is only there because it's a growout tank with no livestock except snails. In other words I can tear it down anytime I want. Also, in the future it will go on my 20g.

If you're planning a permanent tank then you might as well make it look good and not like mine :D
