I planning to start a 37 gallon shrimp tank. I have too many problems or question right now starting it. I brought some 40 pound of CaribSea Eco-complete planted aquarium black gravel on Amazon last Friday that won't be here till 26-30 of this month. I have started growing java moss on a driftwood yesterday. I think my tank is fully cycled because I have guppy and cichlid frys in there for 1 week already and none die. I am buying some RCS from an guy on AC. The shrimp will be here in 3-5 days. My Ph is very of high for shrimp 7.5.

Can someone with shrimp tank skill help me with these questions.

Can Shrimp stay in a bare bottom tank for a 3 week till I setup my shrimp tank? (I have an 40 breeder tank with 6 neon and 3 guppy in it right now) I still waiting for plant gravel to step up my shrimp tank and to cycle the tank. Going to just move old tank gravel out and put the new one in. Not going to really clean out the tank and filter to do water cycle.
If I put in lots of drift wood to lower the PH. Will my shrimp handle the brown color of the water with the hardness?
Will my Eclipse hood water flow be too fast for the shrimp? It already to fast for the frys.
Will the tutu fabric net be safe for baby shrimps?
Is my eclipse stock light bright enough for high lighted plants or just low lighted plants? (18 watt light blubs x 2) (36watt total) I know it suppose to be watts per gallon but this tank is kind of high.

Your shrimp should be fine in a bare bottom tank. Just give them some hiding places like java moss, driftwood, and etc. Maybe the guppy will be fine but do remove the cichlids since it s more likely they will eat them now or eventuall. As far as water parameters goes it should be fine. I live in the Bay Area and got shrimps from other states and from Socal so there was no special treatment(s) I did. RCS are very hardy. Your tank might not be fully cycled yet so watch your water parameters. One week is too fast and the beneficial bacteria probably hasn't totally been established. I have made that mistake plenty of times. Good luck!

Just a little confused I think. Will you be putting the shrimp in the tank with the blue gravel, then when you get your black gravel, switch it out? Or are you using that same tank and taking out the blue gravel, leaving the tank bare bottom, then putting in the black gravel? I agree with the above, if your tank has only been cycling a week, it's not cycled yet. Plus most of your beneficial bacteria is located in the gravel, when you change it out, you will probably go through another cycle which might kill your shrimp. They are very sensitive to change, and ammonia is going to definitely show up when you change the gravel.

The Eclipse tank is what I am going to use for my Planted tank. Right now I have some frys inside it for just over a week now. Before the frys went inside the tank. The tank had some pond snail left in there for like 4 months. I just clean out the snails and pump water from my cichlid tank to fill it up. The eclipse was really cycle out with the snail in it before I add the fish frys. Now the fish frys are cycling it out for the shrimp. What a cycle. LOL. Anyway my 40 breeder does not have the lights or hood for it and is bare bottom. Just an filter on the side of the 40 breeder. I have to put the java moss in the eclipse tank for now because of the light. I also planted the java moss on the drift wood so I can move it around.

When I get my planted gravel. I would just empty the eclipse tank and put in the plant gravel in and fill it up with water from my cichlid tank and let it cycled. I never really do clean out my fish tanks. I just do 25% water changes every 1 or 2 weeks. I have to keep up with the water changes because my wife complains about the fish tank smell. I just worried that all this moving around. Hopefully it doesn't kill the shrimps. I'm not really worried about the ammonia because my filter on the eclipse tank has not be clean for 5 months. When I add the shrimp to the tank. The shrimp are so little that there won't be much ammonia. I am only getting 24 adult RCS for the tank and the tank is a 37 gallon. I think the cycle should be fine just as long as I don't add any other fishes to the shrimps. What I worried more is about getting the PH lower. But than again, I might be wrong because I am a rookie to shrimp but not to fishes. Thanks for the advice.

I yeah forgot. The shrimp will first be put in my 40 breeder tank without the fish that was inside. I just have finish setting up my Eclipse tank for shrimp before putting them in. Again all that moving around just might kill them.

I currently have yellow shrimp in a tank with 8 ph. Also I wouldn't mix shrimp and fish unless you are positive they will not be able to eat the shrimp. I was shocked when I got my shrimp because I had no idea they were so tiny

Yesterday I brought some 60 pound of CaribSea Eco of the Craigslist for $20. I try to cancelled my order and amazon won't let. The item still says not shipped yet. That was dumb. My black gravel is about 4 1/2 inch high. I made and DIY filter inlet. I put the gravel in last night and fill it up with my frontosa tank water. Today my RCS came in. I ran to Petsmart and got my water tested. It was good. I put the RCS in.

Can someone help me? My shrimp are dying. They are turning cook white and next day you see the exoskeleton only. Should I move them out of the tank. I got my water tested before I put them in. I have 24 RCS. My tank is 37 gallon. That makes 1.5gallon per shrimp. I got my water tested before I put my shrimp in. It hard to call it my water cycle. Can it be the use gravel I put in? Can it be the was stress during shipping or PH change? Can it be molting? I think it molting because of what I read on this web. http://glassislands.com/articles/article-lifeinthebowlghostshrimp.htm

It so sad to start of like this. Please give me some help? Should I use Kent Marine Iodine? I think my tank don't have enough iodine because it a new tank setup. But Kent Marine Iodine is use only for reef inhabitants. What can I do?
