thought Id introduce myself before randomly replying in threads. :)
My name is Josh, Im from bakersfield, ca. I Like long walks on the beach, watching the sun set, and horse back riding. Im also a taurus.

Im new to this very addicting hobby. I currently have a 29 gallon, but already looking for a bigger one :D

Currently have in the tank:
3 neon tetras
2 black mollys
upside down catfish
and a Giant Danio

All are doing great, except one fish. I got a swordtail when I finished the cycle, and it was doing great for a few days, eating plenty, swimming around, appeared to be healthy, fed them and then went to work, came home for lunch, and found him dead.
Okay I thought, maybe he was just an unhealthy fish to begin with. So I go back to the store and get another swordtail, the very next morning, I found the poor thing dead too.

Are swordtails especially sensitive? From what I have read and heard, they are pretty hardy fish. All the other fish are doing great, so its bafling me what could cause JUST the swordfish to die on me.
Any suggestions would could be the issue here?
All levels in the tank are within safe bounds.

thanks

I would suggest getting at least one more giant danio. They enjoy swimming together.
I've never had much luck with swordtails.
What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings.

Kim

I introduced them over a period of about 2 hours
let the water temperatures equalize, added aquarium water to the bag, let it sit for about 30 minutes, added a little bit more, let it sit some more and then introduced them to the take.

As for my levels, everything is in the safe range. I didnt have an ammonia tester at the time as thought maybe that was the cause so I went I went back to the store I had them test my water and they informed me it was fine.

Thanks for the tip on the danios, I was thinking how lonely he looked swimming alone just this morning. :)

After adding water from your tank to the bag and waiting a while, did you pour any out before adding new?

The way I aclimate is, add a cup or 2 of water from your tank into the bag and float it in the tank for 15 minutes. Then pour out about 25% from the bag and replace with more water from your tank. 15 minutes later, pour out about half the water from the bag and replace again from your tank. 15 minutes later pour out about 75% and again replace from your tank. 15 minutes more and the fish should be ready to go in.

HTH :)
