News confirmed: Steve Irwin (the Croc Hunter) Dead at 44

"The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet," Stainton told reporters in Cairns. "He died doing what he loved best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. He would have said, 'Crocs Rule!'"

What more can I say that this hasn't said for me, such a said loss.

Personally

I always felt that he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. A decent guy, but more of an annoying dope who didn't have a whole lot of respect for the animals he dealt with. It really was a matter of time before something like this happened. Too bad he had to go like that.....

I've "swam with the stingrays" in Grand Caymen and they were so gentle and docile. A friend who was also on the trip with me was so freaked out by them, I'm going to hear it when she finds out about this... *hides*

Here here. :thm:

Its the first thing I heard this morning. Gawd I bawled! Still wiping tears. I found this on his message board. It was a perfect tribute.

Heaven has a new zookeeper:

"I can picture this beloved man darting past the angels, running up to God and saying, "Crikey! Give me something to do, Mate!" And God chuckles and says, "I've already planned it, son. Turn around." The animals he's known and loved who have passed before him are lined up like an army. His mum is there, too. Steve rushes to hug her. After the embrace, she laughs and points to a sign: Welcome to Nirvana Zoo. Home of the Crocodile Hunter.

Thank you, Steve. You have given me a greater appreciation of this world."

He didnt have respect for the animals he dealt with? I couldnt possibly disagree more. His life was based around his respect for animals. :rant2:

Just a sad sad loss. I doubt he would have had it any other way though ya know?

RIP Steve, and God bless his widow and 2 children

If he had tons of respect for the wildlife he dealt with, I don't think he would have taken the chances he did IMO. In that regard, he reminds me somewhat of that Treadwell guy.
