I want to get a fire bellied newt some time soon... I've been working on the set up all is going great with that but one problem is my room temperature. I have other animals in my room that like hot temperatures. Their heat lights along with my parents cranking the heat brings my room to a good 80 degrees... My 5g fish tank next to it stays around 74*F without a heater. In the summer it might be cooler with the A/C but it is just too hot for a newt! Moving the tank out of my room is not an option.

Long story short I need to know the best way to cool a newt tank. Any ideas?

I figure since all of my animals require me to "fight" ambient temperatures (as most reptile pets do in Missouri) it wouldn't be any different to tweak the newt inclosure temperature.

Since theres no edit button I'll just double post...
I apologize for my retort. I'll research better suited amphibian for the temperature in my room.

I thought about the fan but would the blowing bother the newt? Like just a clip on fan blowing over the top or maybe a little slanted in? My water is only going to be about 4 inched deep.

A fan work, and I dont think it would bother the newt much, either. Theres wind in nature, of course.

I just filled it with water and have a waterfall I've just plugged... the temp dropped about 5 degrees right away. :] Hopefully it drops a tiny bit more if not I'll add a fan.
