I have a newt in a 5.5g tank. Lately if I look very closely I can see what seems to insect in the water. They are so small I can't even describe them. About the size of 1 grain of talk! I tried looking at one with a poor quality microscope I bought for my daughter but it moves so fast that it just passes by the lense in a blurrrrrrrrr. Has anyone seen them! Any idea what they can be! I did some reaserch and found nothing.

Hmmm...There are a number of candidates...How long has the tank been setup? Any plants in there? Are they more noticable around the newt?

Might try doping the little bugger with a drop of alcohol in the water sample (not in the main tank ;) don't want a drunk newt out there), see if that allows you to get a better look at it.

The tank has been set up for about 9 mths. I have java fern in it that I took from my 10g guppy tank. I never saw anything like it in my 10g. I don't think it's from the plants. I did however put a branch that I found in the woods near my place. It was dry when I put it in. I never saw these bugs in there until last month or so. I pay close attention to my tanks and if they were there from the begining, I would have notice them, then.
