In my 30 gallon tank I currently have 4 zebra danios and 4 serpae tetras(I may add another serpe or two). The tank is lightly planted. So far they have been doing great. It's getting about that time to add some more fish to the tank.

What would you guys reccommend that would go well in this tank? I'm just trying to get all of my possible options together before I decide where to go with this.

A school of corydoras, pick a type and get 5-6 of the same variety, not adding them all at the same time, maybe 2-3 one day then the other half a week later.

They're neat fish and fun to watch, plus it's always good to have some scavengers around.

Speaking of scavenging, it seems the serpae tetras do just that. When feeding, the zebra danios zip around the top of the tank and usually eat all of the food before the serpaes can get much. The Serpaes seem to be scared of them. Then after feeding time all the danios go back to their thing (chasing eachother around) and the serpaes pick the bottom of the tank for the food particles that sunk. Would adding more serpaes maybe make them feel more comfortable at feeding time?

I do plan on putting cories into the tank, but don't they need special food such as sinking pellets?

ANyone else have any more ideas as good additions to this tank?

Cories will eat any flakes that sink to the bottom, but they really should have some sinking pellets as well. They aren't really special food, they are really required for all bottom feeders.

Cories would be my suggestion as well.

I try to avoid having too many species in my tanks as I find they look a little scattered. So I would stick to three major groups and have fun with that. If you are looking for a little more individual personality then a dwarf gourami might add a colour contrast (get the blue dwarf). And they are fiesty little guys.

Be aware that adding more than 1 may end up with fights as they can be aggressive to their own kind. If you wanted more than 1 I would suggest also adding more plants.

I'd appreciate comments on the following fish I have access to:

Armored Catfish? I hear they are not agressive, but I'm not sure how well that will work in this size of tank with these fish

I'm assuming the following are all similar?
Corydoras aeneus "Green Cory Cat"
Corydoras paleatus "Peppered Cory Cat?"
Corydoras delphax "False Blochi Cat?"
Corydoras San Juan

What about the Bumble Bee Catfish?

And finally I'm thinking the Pictus Catfish would be a good fit, no?

So far your set up sounds similar to mine, i'm very new to this as well but set up a 33G and currently have 5 Serpae Tetras, 2 African Butterfly Cichlids and 2 Bronze Corys in it.

For plants i've gone with a Hygrophila, Java Fern and Red Caspian.

For filters I have a Whisper 40 and an AquaClear 150. I'd bought the Aquaclear on ebay and after coming here realized it probably wouldn't be enough filter for my 33g so I bought the Whisper from the local Big al's. Also have a 200W Tronic heater that I also got from ebay.

I'm planning on adding a school of 5-8 Neon Tetras and some Algae eating shrimp in the future as well.

Oh just cause i'm sure it'll be asked, my cycle finished about a week ago, I added the Cichlids just after it finished and the Cory's just today.

I believe that bumble bee catfish might be BB gobies. If that is the case then they are brackish water and not fresh so you can't really have them.

All those cory caytfish choices are great. Get a minimum of 3 as they tend to do best in groups. The more the better.

Isn't "Armoured catfish" another name for common pleco? I really don't know, it's been so long since I read about this fish, but if I'm right, then your tank is definitely too small.

Slanesh, what's Red Caspian? I've never heard of it and can't find it on plantgeek.net

I've had ghost shrimp in with swordtails and cories, there was some territorial nipping, but no eating or damaget to the shrimp. In any event, ghost shrimp are relatively cheap.
