My clown loaches seem to try and "nibble" on the other fish, mostly around feeding time, as if checking to make sure food isn't stuck on the other fish. However, I see them do it occasionally at other times too. There is no chasing, and it doesn't seem like an aggressive act. Any idea what they're up to? :D

My clowns do this all the time... they just wanna play and have some fun with their tankmates... but their social advances are usually taken the wrong way by the other fish.

I have noticed this behavior with my clowns too...keep this in mind if you are thinking of housing shyer fish with clown loaches...it can annoy them...

none of the other fish seem too annoyed by their "advances" :o They seem to be most fond of the orange platys, I wonder if the color has anything to do with it, could they think they are other clowns?!

my clowns do that to my catfish, but leaves my electric yellow and angle alone cause i think their bigger or always swim around top-mid

I think you'll find that clown loaches and tiger barbs will hit it off straight away in a tank... lots of chasing and playing... they would'nt know whos who cos they all look the same.

Same thing happens with my clowns and kribensis pair. Most of the time it's fine - but the clowns get really confused when mr and mrs krib have babies and suddenly get violent with their 'friends'...

No serious damage seems to be done though..

clown loaches are peculiar little 'jokers' huh! crazy bunch of clowns!! it's no wonder why they're called clown loaches i guess... i suppose their personalities are reasons to why they are such aquariums favourites...
