when i move again, i want to change up my tank. so far my decision is that if my 30g tank is forced to be in a secluded room, then i will keep it as my FOWLR (snowflake eel + 2 others) and create a 10g nano reef(yes im fully willing to do the upkeep)for public view, but if i can get my 30g into public view, i'm willing to invest in converting to a reef tank. i'd rather not do the opposite of the first option which would be to put the eel into a 10g. so i just want to hear some stories for comparison because i hear a lot of good and bad. I'm looking for people with actual experience in the matter as compared to people like me who have just heard the bad.

I agree that it would be a bad idea to place this species in a tank that small. The only eel I could possibly recommend is Gymnothorax melatremus, which stays quite small--even then, I would put it in a 30 gallon tank, minimum.

i still have my snowflake eel in its 30g FOWLR and i guess the way i worded it may have been confusing but i meant to say i knew it would be a really bad idea to move the eel into the 10g. i've been thinking about it myself and i guess i may be sticking to my 30g FOWLR... at least until i get a larger tank. Better start saving for that nano reef then.

my conflict was because i didnt want to lose my eel, and i felt "small" seeing these nice reef tanks and my very undecorated fowlr. i figured a nano would be nice if i had the money and time to start one (which i will), but you know "bigger is better" so i was pretty torn.

you have no idea how much i would love to have a larger tank for my eel, but available space in this condo is the issue. hoping to move somewhere larger. considering my eels current size and the snowflake eel's average rate of growth, i got a lot of time before size becomes an issue, though i do admit im just making the minimum considering the size of a 30g + my 10g sump/fuge.
