i have a dwarf gourami that has had his pectoral fins nipped to the point that the poor thing cant swim. it gets a burst of energy straight up to the top, then ends up lying on the bottom till he gets his strength back up to move to a different area on the bottom of the tank. he can eat as enough has been floating to the bottom for him to get.
the culprit is a large silver dollar tetra that is being excessively aggressive with all the other fish. the other silver dollar has parts of fins nipped as do a couple of the other fish. i dont have anyplace to put the silver dollar just yet. (3rd tank just got set up) i plan on moving the aggressive one as soon as possible into the new tank.
my question is, do pectoral fins grow back or is that poor gourami doomed?

Are you sure it's the silver dollar? How big is the tank he is in and what other fish are in there?

As for the fins, if the "fleshy" part of the fins are not damaged, they should grow back, but they most likely won't be quite the same.

If they are damaged right into the flesh, they won't. Think of it as having your hair pulled out vs the hair+scalp removed.

Yea, like Roan said, as long as they aren't ripped to the flesh, then they should grow back. Try to do alot of water changes, just do whatever you can to keep the water clean, because injury makes fish more prone to disease. That would be bad if your fish was sick and couldn't swim

yeah, i'm sure its the silver dollar. seen him chasing everything in the tank. he is the biggest fish in there.
thanks for the replies. i'm hoping the gourami does get better.
