I was wondering if anyone has used any products on the market today for lowing nitrate in the tank with success. I need to lower the nitrate in my tank because the water I get already has a very high level of it. I would really love it if you could post what nitrate removing products work, thanks.

Ahhh, does this mean you have a detectable level of nitrate straight out of the tap?
Or high nitrate in the tank? How big is it? How long have you had it set up with fish in it?

yes I have a reading of about 50 ppms of nitrate coming from my water supply, and in the tank it just tested around 55, it has been about 4 days since last 25% water change.

10gals, setup with fish for a year.

Call your local utilities. The only chemicals they should be adding to the water are flouride and cholorine.

Hi
One of my filter sponges also claims to be a nitrate remover (hmmm pinch of salt there!) but otherwise I agree with the others.. put in some hardy real plants.. (the added benefit being that they look great in the tank)

If you're on a public utility, I believe the max nitrate reading you should get (according to EPA guidelines) is 44 ppm. I'd call your water utility and/or try a different test, just to be sure.
