Nitrate Media

I'm looking at 2 products from Marine Depot. 1 is Seachem Purigen and the other is Seachem Denitrate. Both have about the same reviews. Maybe someone else will weigh in on these products.

best nitrate removal remedy is water changes, hands down.
having said that, if water changes are not feasible, then nitrazorb or some such similar product will work.
my experience with products that alter water parameters is in canister and hob filters, not reactors (i assume you are talking co2?).

Greg, I'm pretty sure my LFS uses stuff from Carib-Sea, LSM & ARM? I don't know enough about it to offer any advice, but I was there for the initial Nitrate test the day the system was hooked up and in less than a month they have 0 nitrates. I know they built their denitrators for under $75 too.
I could get another ViaAqua Poly-Reactor and chain the other one to it. Put the phosphate media in one and then the nitrate media in the other.
Greg: I went through a period where my nitrates were around 20 which isn't critical, but elevated none the less. I have 2 Phosban reactors (150s) and they are both filled with Seachem De*Nitrate. It took a couple of weeks to take hold, but once the proper bacteria started up the Seachem has been effective. Nitrates down to 0. Before you daisy chain the reactors, the de-nitrate goes for low flow (50 gallons / hour) so I have my GF in "bags" near the return as well as a bag of charcoal. Hope this helps. David
Oh, I have had the Via Aqua reactor and it works just fine. Don't remember the flow rate on the pump that comes with it. Slender profile to help fit into tight areas.

Hi David. The phosphate media takes a slow flow as well and that's the only reason I thought about chaining the 2 reactors together. I like the small size of the Via Aqua as well. What is GF? I was planning on putting the charcoal in a bag on the sump. I guess once everything is established the need for these will be lessened. Thanks.
