nitrate problems

For room under my tank for a grow out tank i will most likely take out the canister and use either a penguin bio wheel or a cascade. I think this might help clear up my water to. it has a yellowish tint to it. I do feed alot but they eat every bit with in a matter of minutes.

Extra filters won't do a thing for Nitrates.

Water changes will. That or plants. Removing decaying matter. Cutting down on overfeeding. Thats about it, this side of a plenum.

I clean the filter once a month and replace all media (expect the bio rings) every other month. Im thinking of switching to 2 hang on filters instead.

do you think i should switch to 2 hang on filters? i could do bi weekly cleaning. would that help?

Seemed like you were looking at filters as a cure for high nitrates. I didn't see it addressed directly.

If you clean them very regularly it could be a way of exporting decaying debris. It can also lead to concentrating debris and setting up ideal conditions for the bacteria that cause it to decay. I've seen filters described as "Nitrate factories" for this reason.
