nitrate

All I could find at the time was the strips, so that is what I got, someone did send me a link to bigals for a master kit, but in the meantime I found a wholesale site that had the nitrate/nitrite testing kits for a little less I am waiting for them to come and will no longer get the strips. Like I said though I am thinking I must be ok since I have never seen any green algea, and my fish do not act stressed (I don't think anyway). I will change my feeding habits and continue the water changes and when I get the liquid testing kit I will check and see what it says.

Thank you for making me feel a little better!! :)

Ok thank you , I will let you know once I get my new testing kit how everything turned out.

You could also take in a water sample to your local store and get a second opinion, they should test for free, just ask them for actual numbers, and take note if they use strips or liquid.

I know it would be benificial to me to go into the fish store (for my fish anyway) but...I'm afraid if I go in there I may end up knocking the guy upside his head when I saw him!!!! All they care about is selling fish, they are irresponsible, ignorant, imbasoles and I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them! They would sell you a great white shark and say it would be ok in a 5/g tank!! They sold my son & Mom (she took him to get our fish) 2 irridesents, 2 columians, 3 bala, 2 neon guoramies, and a algea eater and said they would all be fine in a 30/g tank, then said they were all BW fish and sold them aquarium salt saying to use IT to make the water BW, then when the columians became ill I found this site to try and help the columians I found out EVERYTHING they said was wrong, I tried to take the irridesents back (not even wanting money or replacment fish) and was told no they hve a 3 day return policy only if the fish are sick or dead and they said it was still ok gor them because they wouyldn't outgrow the tank...theres more to this but that is it in a nut shell I will never step foot in that place again! But thanks for the advice and under different circumstances I would do that.

After a while you learn to grin and bear it at the LFS, and sooner or later you will find a good LFS. Always resist the urge to knock folks upside the head in public. It's a good way to find yourself buying fish stuff on-line.

LOL thanks Dave!
