Nitrates Are Killing Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't canister filters experience head loss like other water pumps do in a sump?

Im not sure myself but I would think so and that would mean that rena is not 350 gph if its below the tank, any one know if this is true or am i just talkin out my @$$

They do indeed.

Okay. Thanks for all the input everyone. I didn't realize the foxface would get so big when it was listed at the LFS it must have had the wrong adult size. I didn't want a fish that big But will try my best to handle the load. I have purchased the live sand and will start working on the live rock. Will continue to do the water changes and get another powerhead.

I use a stage3 pur filter to filter my water.

One question. Should I put anything in my cannister as I have it running empty? Or leave it alone?

Thanks will keep posting updates on my progress

Well everyone got the live sand today. It is very fine and hopefully full of critters. Tomorrow I will do a water change and add carbon to my cannister filter. Will recheck the nitrates tomorrow and post them tomorrow night so we all can see if I am making any headway. Thanks again for all the help.

I'd use purigen instead of carbon. It lasts longer and you can regenerate it. Plus it won't strip your trace elements.

my nitrates at one time were 40 ppm, i used a remote deep sand bed, gradually removed my bio balls and all mech. filteration, upgraded to a large skimmer and installed a refugium with chaeto, i do 10% water change a week and after 2 months it is now below 5 ppm.

You're on the way ! wasn't it worth the effort !

Well, I put the extra 30 pounds of live sand in and have added a rio plus 1700 pump to get some water moving. Have done a 25% water change. Checked the nitrates yesterday and the were 10 so I guess I am on my way. I still need to get the live rock but don't have the extra cash at the moment so hopefully in the next few weeks. Until then I will continue with the water changes twice a week and hopefully that will keep them in check.

Sadly during all the changes I lost one of my Chromis and the Clown. Clowns seem to be the hardest thing for me to keep so I will not purchase anymore until I get everything in check.

Will keep posting my progress

thanks
everyone

Checked the nitrates to day and they are at about 5. I have been adding Purple Up on a regular basis and I am starting to get a lot of the purple coraline. I am going to do another 25% water change tomorrow and clean the the cannister filter again. I only use carbon in the filter now. No other media. I am still feeding the denitrator twice a week as instructed by the company. Will check all parameters. Still need to get some more live rock.
I need to get about 35 cerith snails and then I think I will get 2 of the brittle stars to help with clean up.

Not to thread jack but how do you regenerate the purigen carbon? I have some but I do not see where it tells you how to regenerate it.
