My tank is on day 28 of its cycle. The past 8 days ammonia and NitrItes have been at o and 0.1, My nitrATes have been no less than 10. How do I get it to go to 0, they should be at 0 yes? Some have said to stop feeding, but I have a bunch of baby fry in there 1 is 16 days old the others are only 8 days old, so not feeding is really not an option with all the babes we have.
I was doing water changes daily but have not done since Wedesday. My thought was that since the trites and ammonia were 0 that I could back off a little, trates are holding their own at 10. Do I need to go back to the daily changes? Its no problem to do them I just worry about stressing the fish out by constantly messing with them. I also have quite a bit of salt in there (mollies) and I am told that will take the toxins from the nitrates and make them less so. Not sure how much truth is in that. They all seem to be happy, swimming all over the place, eating up every bif of food I put in. Nobody is hanging at the top but mostly in the middle close to teh front of the aquarium in hopes that I will be dropping food in any second for them. So I am not worried that they are struggling or stressed at all.
My other question is with the fry, right now they are in a mesh breeder thingy, the oldest is much bigger than the speck she was born at, she is now probably a whole tail size bigger, when can i release her in with the others? How old or big should they be? I DID put one of the smaller ones in with the big guys and while they did give chase they never really bothered it horribly. However I was fearful as to what would happen when i walked away so i scooped him up and put him back in with his brothers and sisters. Actually truth be told I put the net in teh big tank an dhe pretty much hopped rigth in for me lol. There are 12 all together and the mesh thingy looks like it might be getting cramped for these growing guys.
