nitrite question

G How about keeping like a 15-20 gallon coral only tank and use it to double as a quantine or should quarantines be by themselves with nohing else?
You really don't want inverts in your fish QT; you will likely need to treat with meds at some point including copper which is deadly to inverts. On the other hand, copper is sometimes just about the only thing that will save your fish from certain pathogens. Save the live corals for your next tank; after about a year with marine fish experience.

I've had the 55g marine tank for almost 3 years now.

My nitrites are under 2 now so the slow decline continues. :) I'm already noticing pods in the new one.

Ahhh, did not realize... in that case you certainly have the basic marine experience, so why not corals, as long as you are prepared to devote the money and time required for lighting/dosing/temp/live rock/skimmer/water movement, etc.
Still, all of this "reef system stuff" is different from a quarantine tank, which is a great investment for you at this point.
