I don't know if they're more sensitive, but they do take longer to recover following a crash. NO2 oxidizers get less energy per molecule than the ammonia oxidizers, plus the NO2 oxidizers are dependent on the ammonia oxidizers for food, so they won't recover until the ammonia oxidizers do.
