Nitrite Wont Go Down!!

thanks for the reply's guys... i still havent gotten an ammonie spike, still a gradual increase...
should I be waiting for a spike? or will it gradually increase and gradually go back down??
also, I cant get live rock where i live, they are illegal to import... and the ammonia method i thought would be too complicated for me... im trying to go after something plain and simple.. also, this method will last longer in the long run, so I figured why not! =D

BTW, can i basically dive into the ocean and pickup any rock and it will be live? or is there a way of telling whether its live/dead?

You should always do a large WC after your nitrate spike.

Hey guys, todays readings are:
Ammonia 0.5
Nitrite 2.0
Nitrate 40

I was in the chatroom earlier and was told to not worry about nitrate yet, just wait for the ammonia to hit the 4-5 range, then wait for it to come back down to 0 and THEN do the water change...

any opinions??

Do a WC when both ammonia & nitrite are 0 & the nitrate spikes.

I'm not actually sure but eventually it will stop rising & then the only way to remove it will be with a huge WC.

yeh i read that a couple of times...
i just left the malaysian aquarium (biggest in asia) and IM IN LOVE!!! they had a HUGE tropical fish tank, id guess about 400-500 gallons, and it was SOO COLORFUL!! and ive decided that i want my fishtank to look the same!!
they had a blue colored background and some corals... also had a HUGE batfish and a few clowns...
it was beautiful!! so now im excited and wanna get started on my tank! :D

hey guys..
my ammonia level is gone down to 0.2, and my nitrite is around 1.5...
im not sure if this is correct or not though...
my nitrate is still really high...
is this the end of the cycling process? the shrimp is still in the tank... should i take it out?

The end is when ammonia & nitrite are both 0.
Is your tank fully decorated with substrate, etc?

what do u mean by fully decorated with substrate?
the stuff in my tank atm is fake coral and a sand bed... thats all thats in there atm...
BTW, wats the purpose of cycling the tank? what do you get in the end of the process?
